ACT-Residual Testing

An on-campus or "residual" testing program is available to ACT-participating colleges to administer the ACT to students who were unable to test on an ACT National Testing date. ACT Residual Testing is strictly limited only to students who have officially applied, have been admitted, or have enrolled at your institution. Scores from residual testing are reported only to your institution for admission, course placement, and advising purposes. 

Eligibility

  • Eligibility for Colleges — Only ACT-participating colleges are eligible for ACT Residual Testing for the purpose of obtaining data on their enrolled, admitted, or applicant students who were unable to take the ACT on a regularly scheduled test date in time to meet the college's deadlines. 
  • Eligibility for Students — ACT Residual Testing may be conducted on your campus for students who:
  • 1) Have applied, 2) have been admitted, or 3) are enrolled at your college. Students who do not intend to attend your college must not take the ACT Residual Testing on your campus. 

Test Dates/Scheduling 

  • ACT Residual Testing may be conducted on any dates arranged through the Testing Center EXCEPT the seven regularly scheduled ACT National Testing Dates and any additional licensing exams testing dates (i.e. PRAXIS, National EMT, CLEP or MAT)

Scores 

  • Scores from residual testing are valid only at your college and cannot be transferred by transcript or other means to any other institution or agency. 
  • Scores from residual testing are reported only to the college administering the test. 
  • No Student Reports and no High School Reports are generated. 
  • No Additional Score Reports will be generated to report scores to any other institution.  

Restrictions 

  • ACT Residual Testing is not a practice test. 
  • ACT Residual Testing is not for use with younger students. 
  • You may not provide residual testing to individuals who do not intend to attend your college.
  •  ACT Residual Testing is restricted to on-campus administrations. Test booklets may not be transported from campus to campus or to any off-campus locations. 
  • A minimum of 60 days must elapse before another ACT Residual Test may be taken. Scores achieved before the minimum elapsed time will be cancelled without refund
  • ACT restricts the number of times a student may take the ACT to 12 times total. ACT Residual Testing does count toward that maximum. Scores that exceed the maximum will be canceled without refund.

Next Generation

The Next Generation Exam is a computerized placement exam designed to identify the basic skill level of students as they enter institutions of higher education.  The Next Generation Exam is used as a substitution for the ACT or SAT.

CLEP TEST FEE INCREASE: Effective July 1, 2017

Correspondence/Online Tests

Anyone taking a correspondence course from another institution may have tests for the course administered under the supervision of the University Arkansas at Monticello Testing Services Office. 

All students enrolled at U.A.M. who pursue correspondence work must have prior approval of their academic advisor, academic unit head, and the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. The application for approval is available in the U.A.M. Registrar’s Office.  You should verify with your sponsoring institution that UAM is authorized to supervise your examinations.  We administer the tests according to their instructions and return the completed tests to the sponsoring institution.   It is the student’s responsibility to meet the deadlines proposed by the sponsoring institution.

Cost: $20.00 paid to the UAM cashier for the first exam and $10.00 for each additional exam. The receipt must be submitted to the Testing Office prior to testing.

GRE

The Graduate Record Exam is a national test required for entrance into many graduate programs. The General Exam measures abilities developed and skills acquired over a long period of time. Subject Tests measure achievement in a particular field and assume an undergraduate major or extensive background in the specific subject.

The GRE General Exam will only be offered as a computer-based test and will no longer be administered as a paper-and-pencil exam. UAM does not administer the GRE exam.

MAT

The Miller Analogies Test (MAT) is composed of approximately one hundred multiple-choice analogy questions.  Some graduate programs require MAT as an admissions requirement.  Contact the Testing Services Officer to register.

Cost: A fee of $75.00 must be paid to the UAM Cashier's Office prior to testing.   

Availability: The MAT is given on an as needed basis.  It is the student's responsibility to register with the Testing Services Office. You must present a valid photo ID and a secondary form of ID on the date of the exam.

Online Proctored Exams

“PAX” Pre Admission Nursing Exam:

The Pre-admission Nursing Exam “PAX” is given at the UAM Testing Center - Student Success Center, Second Floor-Suite 201. The exam is administered October-February of each year.

The pre-admission exam is from the National League for Nursing (NLN) . This is the only pre-admission exam that the School of Nursing will accept. The exam cost $40 and students are responsible for the payment upon registering.

NREMT Certification Testing 

NREMT Certification examinations are intended to evaluate the competence of EMS practitioners at a variety of levels: First Responder, EMT Basic, EMT Intermediate (’85 and ’99), and Paramedic.

SAT I and SAT II

The Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT I) is a multiple-choice test that measures verbal and mathematical abilities. Many colleges across the country require the SAT for admission.

The Subject Tests (SAT II) are multiple-choice tests, which measure knowledge of particular subjects. See the SAT II Bulletin for detailed information on subject areas available. The SAT I and II are administered at the same time.  You may register for either the SAT or up to three Subject Tests at one administration.

The TOEFL test (Test of English as a Foreign Language) measures the ability of non-native speakers of English to use and understand English as it is spoken, written, and heard in college and university settings.  The TOEFL iBT (Internet-based Test) tests all four language skills that are important for effective communication:  speaking, listening, reading, and writing.   The test takes about 4 1/2 hours. No one is allowed to continue beyond the time limit.
